Bulldog Forward Battling Leukemia, in Urgent Need of Marrow or Cord Blood Donor
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – As Yale women’s ice hockey player Mandi Schwartz continues to battle leukemia, efforts to find her a matching marrow or cord blood donor have intensified. With help from some former Bulldogs, those efforts have expanded to include everything from hockey tournaments in Canada to the World’s Largest Baby Shower in Atlanta. Shelton Plays Amity for SCC Baseball Title on Saturday
Shelton overcame a 4-run deficit to beat Law 10-6 and advance to the SCC Baseball Championship game. Eric Christensen picked up the win working six innings. Brett Micheal Doran suffered the loss. The Gaels Mike Georgealas and Tom Carroll collected two RBI each. Josh Rouse picked up to RBI for the Lawmen.

Three Owls Selected To Play In 2010 NEIBA All-Star Game at Fenway Park
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Three members of the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team – sophomores Chris Zbin (Colchester, Conn.) and Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) and freshman Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) – will have the opportunity to play at Fenway Park on Sunday, June 6 in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-Star Game. The contest will put a team of Division I All-Stars against a squad made up of Division II and Division III Senior All-Stars in the annual game. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
Geffert, a multiple All-Region and First-Team All-Northeast-10 Conference honoree, closed the year with a .323 batting average to go along with 14 home runs and 60 RBI. He also scored 57 runs and posted a .647 slugging percentage. His home run and RBI totals this year were tied for third all-time in program history.
Zbin, an Honorable Mention All-American, multiple All-Region selection and First-Team All-Northeast-10 Conference honoree, finished the year with a 7-2 win-loss record and a 2.49 ERA. He struck out 101 batters on the season to rank second in the Northeast-10 Conference and second all-time in Southern Connecticut history for strikeouts in a single season.
Cleary, an All-Region pick as well as the 2010 Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of the Year and a First-Team All-Conference pick, started all 52 games for the Owls in 2010. He posted a team-high .330 batting average with a .438 slugging percentage and .382 on-base percentage. He tallied 36 RBI, 36 runs scored, 64 hits, eight doubles and one home run. He finished the 2010 regular season ranked in the top-20 in nine offensive categories within the conference, including a tie for first in triples (5) and a tie for third in sacrifice bunts (9).
The Owls concluded the year with a mark of 38-13-1 and tied a program single-season record for victories. Along the way, the club won the Northeast-10 Conference regular season title and reached the NCAA Tournament East Region finals.

Quinnipiac Baseball’s Joe Poletsky Named To All-Northeast Conference Second Team Third Baseman Has Career Year
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University junior Joe Poletsky (Riverside, Conn.) was named to the All-Northeast Conference Second Team, as announced by the conference office at the annual banquet on the eve of the start of the 2010 Northeast Conference Baseball Tournament.
