INDIANA, Pa. – The Southern Connecticut State University opened its 2010 season on Saturday with a 16-6 loss to Indiana University (Pa.) in the season opener for both teams. IUP struck first with a 12 play, 49-yard drive that culminated with a 28-yard field goal by Craig Burgess. In retrospect, Jeff Bevino's initiation into the Southern Connecticut Conference may have been a clear violation of the CIAC hazing policies. Bevino - coming from a winning program at Notre Dame of Fairfield - and his 2006 Foran team was beaten, battered, and ultimately left winless behind a young quarterback named Jake White. IVY League Field Hockey Off to Good Start

Princeton, N.J. -- The Ivy League field hockey teams got off to a hot start in the opening four days of the 2010 season by posting a 10-3 record and outscoring their opposition by a 45-28 margin. In a weekend full of impressive individual performances and debuts, two players rose above their peers to claim the first Ivy League weekly honors of the 2010 season. PRINCETON, N.J. -- Ivy League women's soccer got off to a solid start last week with the eight sides combining for an 8-7-1 record. All eight sides earned a win during opening weekend while Harvard remained undefeated with a shutout of New Hampshire and a tie against Long Island. Cebry’s Hat Trick Caps Overtime Triumph For Field Hockey Squad

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Freshman Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) capped a hat trick with the game-winning goal 5:13 into overtime to lift the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team to a 6-5 triumph over Mansfield on Sunday afternoon. It was the first win of the year for the Owls, who improved to 1-1. The contest was a back-and-forth affair in which the Owls held leads of 3-2 and 5-4 before Mansfield forced overtime with just 1:35 left in regulation.
