INDIANA, Pa. – The Southern Connecticut State University opened its 2010 season on Saturday with a 16-6 loss to Indiana University (Pa.) in the season opener for both teams. IUP struck first with a 12 play, 49-yard drive that culminated with a 28-yard field goal by Craig Burgess. In retrospect, Jeff Bevino's initiation into the Southern Connecticut Conference may have been a clear violation of the CIAC hazing policies. Bevino - coming from a winning program at Notre Dame of Fairfield - and his 2006 Foran team was beaten, battered, and ultimately left winless behind a young quarterback named Jake White. PRINCETON, N.J. -- Ivy League women's soccer got off to a solid start last week with the eight sides combining for an 8-7-1 record. All eight sides earned a win during opening weekend while Harvard remained undefeated with a shutout of New Hampshire and a tie against Long Island. NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Freshman Sarah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) capped a hat trick with the game-winning goal 5:13 into overtime to lift the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team to a 6-5 triumph over Mansfield on Sunday afternoon. It was the first win of the year for the Owls, who improved to 1-1.
