Quinnipiac Men’s Cross Country Runs At Paul Short Invitational

Levene Paces Bobcats At Lehigh University

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Quinnipiac University men’s cross country team ran at the Paul Short Run held at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. on Friday, Oct. 1. The 37th annual Invitational had over 5,000 runners from 230 colleges and high schools scheduled to compete in races throughout the day. The Bobcats finished in 33rd place out of 40 teams in the Men’s College Brown 8K Race. Sophomore Mike Levene (Redding, Conn.), who finished in 37th place overall, was Quinnipiac’s top finisher, with a time of 26:15.

Brian Cotter (Huntington, N.Y) crossed the finish line next for Quinnipiac in 27:10. With a time of 27:37, John Healy (Middletown, N.J.) was the Bobcats’ third finisher. Jacob Cetera (Chicago, Ill.) and John Beckshaw (Medford, Mass.) were Quinnipiac’s next two runners to finish in 27:48 and 28:15, respectively.

White Leads Bobcats In 6K Race

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Quinnipiac University women’s cross country team ran at the Paul Short Invitational held at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. on Friday, Oct. 1. The 37th Annual Run had over 5,000 runners from 230 colleges and high schools scheduled to compete in races throughout the day. The Bobcats finished in 25th place out of 41 teams in the Women’s College Gold 6K Race. Sophomore Becca White (Natick, Mass.) finished in 46th place overall and was Quinnipiac’s top finisher with a time of 21:27.

Quinnipiac finished ahead of its Northeast Conference opponent Mount St. Mary’s, who finished last at the Invitational.

The second runner to finish for the Bobcats was freshman Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.) with a time of 22:21. The next runner to finish for Quinnipiac was senior graduate student Kristen Stevens (Succasunna, N.J.) in 22:47. Junior Katherine Beam (South Windsor, Conn.) was Quinnipiac’s fourth runner to cross the finish line in 22:40 and freshman Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) was its fifth finisher with a time of 23:13.

“The women’s team has had a lot of hard practices over the last few weeks,” said Head Coach Carolyn Martin. “Although we didn’t run as well as we were hoping, as a whole, we see where we need to improve. We’re going to make those improvements for the championship season in order for the team to be where it needs to be.”

The Bobcats are scheduled to run at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9.

“We’ve been working really hard throughout the season, but we’re not going to see the benefits until we start to taper down into the season,” said Head Coach Carolyn Martin. “We’re hoping our hard work will carry through to the Northeast Conference Championships and Regionals.”

The Bobcats are scheduled to run at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9.

Joseph Poulsen Tabbed As Men’s Cross Country Captain

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University men’s cross country/track and field coach John Wallin has announced that senior Joseph Poulsen (Oxford, Conn.) has been named as team captain of the cross country squad for the upcoming fall campaign.

Poulsen is coming off a junior campaign in which he earned All-Conference, All-Region and All-New England laurels. This fall, he received preseason recognition from New England Runner magazine as its No. 4 male Division II cross country performer in the region.

The Owls open the 2010 season on Sept. 11 at the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devil Invitational.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the first time in program history, the Southern Connecticut State University women’s cross country team has earned a national ranking. The Owls were ranked No. 25 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association preseason poll.

Previously, the Owls were ranked No. 2 in the USTFCCCA regional poll.

The Owls open the 2010 season on Sept. 11 at the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devil Invitational.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University women’s cross country coach Chris Covert has announced that sophomore Kelsey Proctor (Guilford, Conn.) will serve as team captain during the 2010 campaign. Proctor captured All-Northeast-10 Conference laurels during her rookie season with the Owls last fall.

The Owls open the 2010 season on Sept. 11 at the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devil Invitational.
