New Haven, CT – The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Bowl Championship Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN, for games ending September 24.
About the Award: This is the eighth year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Bowl Championship Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
BRANDON WEEDEN, OKLAHOMA STATE
Senior, Quarterback, Edmond, OK/Sante Fe
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden passed for a school-record 438 yards as the 7th-ranked Cowboys came-from-behind to defeat 8th-ranked Texas A&M, 30-29. Weeden completed 47-of-60 passes and had two touchdown tosses as OSU (4-0, 1-0 in Big 12) rallied from a 17-point halftime deficit.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
TYRANN MATHIEU, LSU
Sophomore, Cornerback, New Orleans, LA/St. Augustine
LSU sophomore cornerback Tyrann Mathieu had six tackles (5 solo), one interception, one pass breakup and forced and recovered a fumble as the third-ranked Tigers (4-0) defeated #16 West Virginia, 47-21. It is the second straight week a LSU cornerback (Morris Claiborne, Sept. 18) has earned Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. SCSU Football Routs Pace 61-0
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Thanks to a dominating effort in all facets, the Southern Connecticut State University football team blanked Pace, 61-0, for its third consecutive victory. The final margin of victory was the largest in any shutout in school history.

Florida senior running back Chris Rainey totaled 233 all-purpose yards and one touchdown as the 16th-ranked Gators defeated Tennessee, 33-23. Rainey, who also blocked a punt in the contest, rushed for 108 yards (on 21 carries) and caught two passes for 104 yards, including a 83-yard touchdown as the Gators improved to 3-0, 1-0 in the SEC.

LSU junior cornerback Morris Claiborne had two interceptions and broke up one pass as the third-ranked Tigers (3-0, 1-0 in SEC) defeated #25 Mississippi State, 19-6, on Thursday evening. Claiborne, who added one tackle, helped LSU’s defense hold the Bulldogs to just 193 yards of total offense.
