Welcome to HS Track
After placing second in the shot put at the recent CIAC Class LL Girls Indoor Track and Field Championship Meet with a throw of 34-feet 11 ¾ inches, Kate Simon advanced to Saturday’s State Open at the New Haven Athletic Center, where she came in sixth with a personal beat throw of 36-8. That heave also set a new school record, erasing the old mark of 36-7 ¼,set by Mary Gosselin in 2000. Simon now advances to the New England Championship Meet on March 3rd at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
The Lady Spartans 4x800 meter relay (Rebecca Race, Alyssa Doolan, Cynthia Greenberg, and LeeAnn Beedle) finished 5th in the Class LL meet with a time of 9 minutes, 57.36 seconds. They also advanced to the State Open where the same foursome posted a 10th place time of 9:58.54.
“I didn’t expect much more than we did,” said Amity Coach Sean Mahon. “I wanted to do better in the 2 relays but the girls did whatever they could do.”
