The Notre Dame Green Knights moved a step closer to qualifying for the CIAC lacrosse tournament by whipping West Haven 14-1  Monday night at Ken Strong Stadium. Notre Dame sophomore Mike Quinn tallied four times to lead the offensive attack.

Instant Replay Radio – 5/2/11 – HS Baseball – Notre Dame at Branford

Mark Benevento hit a dribbler down the third-base in the bottom of the 8th inning to drive in the winning run and lead Branford to a 4-3 win over Notre Dame West Haven in SCC play earlier today. Benevento also earned the win coming on in relief of starter Jeff Stoddard to work a scoreless top of the 8th.

Branford scored an unearned run off Notre Dame pitcher Greg Zullo in the first.  Hornet catcher ALex Jannotta took advantage of the extra out to deliver a two-out RBI single for the 1-0 lead. Notre Dame took advantage of a Branford error in the top of the 3rd to tie the game at 1-1.

Stoddard and Zullo each settled into a grove until the 6th inning. In the top of the 6th the Green Knights tallied twice to go ahead 3-1. Sean Goldrich started the inning off with a single up the middle followed up by a Brandon Wynne single to left to put runners at second and third with nobody out. Matt Elia brought home a run on a ground out and Matt Murry delivered another on a sacrifice fly to right.

Branford responded quickly in the bottom when Marc Canzanella singled home Janotta who singled and pinch-hitter Ben Criscuolo who doubled to tie the score at 3-3.

Instant Replay Radio – 4/29/11 – HS Baseball – Amity at Notre Dame

Sean Goldrich knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the 9th-inning to lead Notre Dame (8-3) to  extra innings 6-5 win over Amity (8-3). The game was a see-saw battle with Amity jumping on top time and time again only to see the Green Knights scratch back and force extra innings.

The Green Knights pounded out 12 hits in the game  while Amity produced 11 hits. Christian Baglini led the way for Notre Dame with 4-hits and for Amity Ted Ballou had a pair of hits.

Notre Dame reliever Kyle Lockery  earned the win. Amity reliever Samuel Nepiarsky took the loss.

Instant Replay Radio – 4/29/11 – West Haven vs. Cheshire

The West Haven Blue Devils scored five-runs in the 5th inning to beat Cheshire 6-5 earlier today. Mike Binkowski's single knocked in the winning run, but the hero was West Haven pitcher Bob Moretti. Morretti settled down after a rocky start and retired the last 14-batters he faced to earn the complete game win.

Fairfield Prep Trips Up Amity

When Amity hockey Coach Gary Lindgren looked back at his team’s 3-0 Southern Connecticut Conference Division 1 loss to Fairfield Prep on Wednesday night at the Bennett Rink in West Haven, he recalled his team’s inability to score during a 4 minute span of the first period when it had a 2 man advantage.
