Interview with the late Hal Levy |
|
July 25, 2008 - Some of you knew him well, others knew him in passing and some may just know his name but everybody in CT is a bit less fortunate today with the death of Hal Levy late last night (Thursday, July 24).
Hal's work as executive sports editor of the Shore Line Times was epic, a model on which weekly newspapers should be based, and thousands of young athletes up and down the shoreline and beyond have been positively affected by Hal's work.
For those who didn't know, Hal had been ill for some time with liver cancer. Thankfully, he had a chance to say good-bye to many of his friends at a very special party in Cromwell June 26. His dedication was especially essential to the Conn. Sports Writers' Alliance, which will suffer greatly from his departure.
So many state sports writers including myself learned the craft under Hal's stern but caring guidance. I hope you will join me in the days ahead in remembering one of the state's all-time great sports writers.
Ken Lipshez
Herald of New Britain
Treasurer -- Conn. Sports Writers' Alliance
I had a chance to sit down with Hal and interview the Hall of Fame sports writer just a few weeks prior to his passing.

Curren's American Legion Report Week 6 |
|
Ray Curren - Elm City Newspapers
July 21, 2008 - Unfortunately for us neutral observers, there was no late drama in the Zone II race this season, as Shelton took care of business and basically ran away with its third straight zone title, something that - honestly - was somewhat expected this season, but it made the last week of the season anticlimactic.
