SCSU Women’s Field Athletes Excel At GBTC Invitational PDF Print E-mail
January 22, 2008 - ALLSTON, Mass. – Junior Dominique Burrell (New Haven, Conn.) won the shot put and the Southern Connecticut University women’s field athletes earned 11 additional top five finishes at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational, held on the Harvard University campus in Allston, Massachusetts on Sunday.

Burrell’s shot put throw of 13.00 meters edged teammates junior Yvonne Perkins (Danbury, Conn.) and junior Katherine Reynolds (Hamden, Conn.) who claimed second and third place in the event respectively. Reynolds also claimed third in the weight throw with a throw of 15.62 meters, while Perkins took fifth in the event with a throw of 14.37 meters.

Senior Sasha Mathelier (Freeport, N.Y.) took fourth place in both the 60 meter hurdles and the pole vault. Mathelier won the pole vault at last week’s Yale Invitational.

Senior Samantha Duncan (Bloomfield, Conn.) earned second place in the long jump with a jump of 5.36 meters. Sophomore Sasha Saylor (Hartford, Conn.) took fourth in the long jump behind Duncan and also placed second in the triple jump with a jump of 10.62 meters. Freshman Courtni Walker (Uniondale, N.Y.) placed third in the triple jump, and freshman Alexandra Silva (Marlborough, Conn.) placed fifth.

The Owls entire track and field squad will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 25 as they travel to Manhattan to compete in the Great Dane Invitational. Events begin at 2:00 p.m. from the 168th Street Armory.
