SCSU Men’s Throwers Place Strong At GBTC Invitational Team |

January 22, 2008 ALLSTON, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut University men’s track and field team sent its throwing unit to the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational, held on the Harvard University campus in Allston, Massachusetts on Sunday. The throwers turned in several strong performances, paced by freshman Robert Golabek (Hamburg, N.Y.), who placed second in the shot put, and senior Vincent Cossuto (New Milford, Conn.), who delivered two top five performances.
Golabek took second in the shot put with a throw of 15.00 meters. The freshman also placed seventh in the weight throw with a throw of 14.94 meters. Cossuto claimed third in the shot put with a throw of 14.46 meters and fifth in the weight throw with a throw of 15.74 meters.
Junior John Brinley (East Hartford, Conn.) was the Owls’ top performer in the weight throw, placing fourth with a throw of 16.86 meters.
Three freshman also competed for Southern Connecticut on Sunday. Stephen Cappello (Milford, Conn.) placed fourth in the shot put and 12th in the weight throw. Michael Wilder (Willimantic, Conn.) took seventh in the shot put and 11th in the weight throw. Nicholas Fedor (Bethany, Conn.) claimed 10th in the shot put and sixth in the weight throw.
The Owls entire track and field squad will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 25 as they travel to Manhattan to compete in the Great Dane Invitational. Events begin at 2:00 p.m. from the 168th Street Armory.
