NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Five action-packed home games for the Southern Connecticut State University football team at Jess Dow Field will feature a series of exciting events this fall. Once again, the Owls will have at least one promotion in place for each contest in 2009. Highlighting the 2010 home schedule is a nationally televised contest against American International that will air live on the CBS College Sports Network on Sept. 23 at 8 p.m.

The home opener is set for Sept. 11 against a nationally ranked West Liberty University squad. There are a series of promotions set up for this event.

The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a schedule card compliments of the SCSU athletic department. In addition, all fans are asked to bring a non-perishable food or personal care item to benefit the Connecticut Food Bank.

Furthermore, the Owls will also host a Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET) College Kickoff contest at halftime for the second consecutive year. Children in grades K-6 can be entered at the CHET checkpoint table. The child who delivers the longest kick will move on to the finals and have an opportunity to win a special prize.

The Sept. 11 contest is also Take a Kid to the Game day. The TAKG program is presented by Coca-Cola and sponsored by other Corporate Champions, AT&T and Pontiac. Kids, ages 14 and younger, will receive a free ticket with the purchase of a full-priced adult ticket, to watch the Owls at Jess Dow Field.

The athletic department’s ‘Blue Crew’ initiative will once again take place at selected home contests during the 2010-11 academic year. The first 200 fans in attendance to the AIC contest will receive a Blue Crew t-shirt compliments of the athletic department.

Representatives from Coca-Cola and Clear Channel Communications will also be on site that evening with special promotional giveaways for fans.

The AIC contest will also be ‘Heroes Night’, as all active military, as well as police, fire and emergency medical technician personnel will receive complimentary admission to the contest.

In addition, the first 200 fans passing through the turnstiles will receive an Owls’ stadium cup courtesy of the athletic department.

The annual Homecoming contest is on Oct. 16 against Bentley.
